What is lanyard used for?
A strap is a cord, webbing, or strap that can provide a variety of functions such as attachment, restraint, removal, activation and deactivation. Straps are also the outfitting used to secure or lower items on board. In the French army, straps were used to attach pistols, swords, or whistles (for signals) to uniforms semi-permanently. The strap design was used by land cavalry and naval officers at sea. The pistol strap can be easily removed and reattached by the user, but remains connected to the pistol whether it is pulled out or holstered. The strap is commonly used in small electronic devices such as cameras, MP3 players, and USB flash drives to prevent it from being lost or dropped.
